This project reimagines Pittsburgh’s riverfront with floating maker spaces on the Monongahela. A repurposed barge becomes a mobile gallery and workshop, hosting art, welding, 3D printing, and textiles, sparking conversations about industrial renewal. The pilot at the Roundhouse will expand into a fleet of barges for fabrication, performances, and green tech, forming an “innovation archipelago.” These adaptive spaces reconnect neighborhoods, activate abandoned sites, and foster economic ties. By merging art, industry, and ecology, it transforms post-industrial waterways into hubs for creativity, community engagement, and sustainable growth.
