Taking inspiration from Nolli’s map, the studio started with a series of exercises that helped us in understanding the way public spaces work and how buildings are not just isolated objects, but deeply embedded in the fabric of the city.
Followed by reinterpreting the existing metro station in Vastral Gam, the exploration helped me to understand how one can look at public transit from a different perspective and not just as transit. The metro station can trigger commercial infrastructure and help in urban development through the way it has been architecturally designed. Working with different scale helped in developing an understanding of how the building responds to the context and how public spaces work. The exploration of various programmatic or spatial characteristics of the building in the studio helped in creating more accessible public spaces.
